Textured or smooth board?
When choosing a deck made of wooden planks, we need to select not only the type of wood or the composite material from which our planks will be made but also their profile. They can be either smooth or finely or deeply grooved. Both types of planks have their supporters, as well as a distinctive set of pros and cons.
Smooth boards are definitely easier to maintain. Dirt or other contaminants do not get into the grooves, and it is also relatively easy to conduct their renovation. Changing the color or sanding is not problematic, as all you need to do is sand off the old oil or paint and apply a new one. One drawback of this type of board may be for some people the fact that it highlights all the natural features of the wood, including cracks, knots, and scratches.
An alternative is a grooved profile board. It has certain special functional values, such as slip resistance, which comes in handy on rainy or snowy days. The presence of grooves also enhances the comfort of using such a board. They minimize the visibility of any visual imperfections, enhancing – according to at least some – the decorative value of the terrace.
The choice is not easy, because regardless of our decision, we will receive certain pros and cons in the package with the board. Their number is similar, so it is best to rely on individual taste and choose the type of board that suits us stylistically the most.
