What wood to choose for a terrace?

Choosing the right wood for a deck is the most crucial element of the decision to enjoy the deck for many years, and often for a lifetime. The durability and comfort of use of the deck depend on the type of boards we choose. It is also important whether we approach the selection of wood prospectively and qualitatively. The price reflects the quality of the board, so we can treat our final purchase either as a short-term investment or a long-term one. Experience teaches us that it is not worth saving on wood - the better boards we choose, the less attention and additional costs we will have to devote to their maintenance and use.

The range of wooden deck boards is very wide, but in terms of properties and durability, three types of boards should be appreciated above all:

  • boards made of Siberian larch wood;
  • boards made of exotic woods (including massaranduba, bangkirai, teak, ipe, cumaru);
  • boards made of thermo-treated wood.

All of the above-mentioned materials are characterized by high resistance to adverse weather conditions, high hardness, and unique coloration. However, the period of their use varies, and in the case of Siberian larch wood boards, it is 12-15 years, while for exotic wood and thermo-treated wood boards, it is 15-25 years.
